Become an Online Tutor
Tuesday, December 18, 2007

You can get paid to tutor students online on Tutor.com.
You can become a tutor if you have graduated from a college or are currently enrolled in a college. This is good because it's a way for college students to earn an extra income while they're in school. You can work right in the major your studying in - by tutoring kids in math, history, English, etc.
The tutoring is one-on-one and is done through an instant-messaging program which has an interactive white-board and a file-sharing program built right in. The students range in age from 4th grade level up to the college level.
They pay by the hour and send a check out every month. They don't say how much they pay on the site, but you can find out more about their wages after you fill out an application. If you want to know more check out the FAQ which will answer a lot of your questions.

5 Ways to Make Money With PLR Articles
Monday, October 29, 2007
PLR stands for "private label rights." When you buy a PLR article you usually will have full permission to use the article on your website, claim ownership of it, modify it, and sell it. PLR articles usually come in packages based on various keywords, e.g. 15 articles on e-bay marketing.
You can buy and sell PLR articles on e-bay or various webmaster forums such as Digital Point. Here are 5 ways you can make money with PLR articles.
1. Run a PLR Site Many ghostwriters have found success by running their own sites with a database of PLR articles. These sites usually have hundreds or thousands of PLR articles that can only be accessed with a membership fee. The most successful PLR sites will update their database weekly with new articles, and take the most downloaded articles off the site, so that the content is always fresh. Most PLR sites have a membership limit so that the articles aren't on thousands of sites across the internet. Some are so popular that they have waiting lists that are backed for months.
2. Re-write Articles You can re-write free PLR articles online and sell them on ebay or Digital Point. Selling original re-writes of PLR articles makes them more valuable because buyers don't run the risk of having duplicate content online. If you want to do this it's best to just sell the articles to one person without resell rights. Selling the articles to one buyer will allow you raise the price because they will be buying unique, original content that only they will own. The only difference between re-writing a PLR article and writing your own article is re-writing an article will probably save you time and energy.
3. Buy and Sell Article Packs This is probably one of the hardest things to do because there is a lot of competition. When you buy an article pack, everyone who owns the article pack already has the opportunity to sell it. The people who buy the pack from them will also have the opportunity to sell it, and so on and so forth. Before you know it there can be 1,000's of people online selling the same article pack. If you want to put your internet marketing skills to the test then this is the right thing for you.
4. Publish PLR Articles on a Blog Blogging can be profitable but it also can be time-consuming and costly. Some people opt to use PLR articles on their blogs and websites instead of hiring a writer or spending hours writing their own articles. The chance of owning a successful blog is unlikely if all of the articles are duplicate content. If you are thinking about doing this, try to mix original articles with PLR articles, and re-write some of the PLR articles. The Problem With Automated Content explains the importance of keeping the content on your site unique.
5. Use Free Articles as an Incentive Some webmasters give away free PLR articles as a bonus when you buy an e-book, subscription, or other products and services. This is one of the cheapest ways to give customers an extra incentive to buy your products. It can also make a decent gift for people who are subscribing to a newsletter or RSS feed.
If you are interested in free PLR articles, Get a Script has 6,500 articles which are free to use and redistribute. My favorite thing about the site is that you don't have to sign up or give your e-mail to download the articles.
If you are in the market to buy articles, the post Where to find good PLR articles lists dozens of PLR article sites online.
It's easy to make money online if you barter goods or services in exchange for cold hard cash. Get out a math work sheet to see if you're making enough money for the time you're investing. If you need help with math and numbers to see if you're breaking even, there are plenty of calculators and resources online to help you out.

Digg & Stumble for Money
Sunday, October 14, 2007
There are a few ways that you can make money by digging and stumbling articles. I see this go on a lot over at Digital Point forums. First you can sell your services in the Buy, Sell, or Trade category over at Digital Point. There are a few threads that you might have seen if you've been there such as "100 Social Bookmarks for $5." Most of these threads get hundreds of responses which means that at least a few people are making hundreds of dollars digging & stumbling articles.
Since your services might get lost in the shuffle the easiest way to stand out is to get creative. Instead of offering "50 diggs for $3" how about "Get on the front page of Digg for $20!" Obviously you can't make that claim unless you can deliver - but if you can deliver, you can make a lot of money. Some people have gotten 40,000 hits from the front page of digg. You can't buy that kind of traffic. Or can you?
Another way you can make money is selling Diggboss points. Diggboss gives you 1 point for every digg and stumble you make, and it costs two points to get a digg or stumble in return. You can also sell these on Digitalpoint, or through the Diggboss chat and forums. I know those of you who stumbled across this post are probably shaking your head at me, but just because I write about a site doesn't mean I endorse it. Also keep in mind that you don't have to digg or stumble any articles you don't want to - they actually encourage you to only digg the ones you like.
Last but not least you can use different revenue-sharing social bookmarking sites to do your personal bookmarking. There are sites that offer a share of adsense profits on your bookmark pages. I reviewed the two most popular ones on my post "Social Bookmarking Sites with Revenue Share."
Making money online is perfect for paying off those student credit cards you've had for years. By making a little extra cash, you can pay off debts so you can start saving money (and so you don't have to look into credit cards for bad credit). Once you stabilize your credit, you can answer the credit card offers you want to, not just the one you think you'll get!

I'm Still Alive
If you've been here before you probably noticed that I haven't posted in awhile. I started school last month and I've been pretty busy trying to stay ahead in the last few weeks. I decided to drop my biology class (i'm horrible at science) and take environmental science instead, so that should free up my schedule and allow me to post more. I've also been busy trying to make money online to pay for the new class. I've been slightly successful though nowhere near my goal - yet. Here is what I've made in the last week:
Writing articles: $28
Selling posts on another blog: $18
Moola: $1.75
Adsense: $3.38
Vume: $.70
Web-adepts: $.60
Total: $52.23
Honestly it's not bad for the internet, although my adsense CTR (click-through-rate) is dismally low. I need to figure out how to tweak the HTML so I can get more clicks on this blog.
Now that I have taken this break I'm going to be posting a lot more often. I don't plan on having 5 posts for the month of October, even if it means learning how to balance school work with the rest of my life (something which I'm still learning how to do.) So stick around, there's still more to see.

Blogs With Top Commentators Plug in

Blogs with Top Commentators Plug-ins
These blogs have the "top commentators" plug in on their blog, which means that the top commentators get a site-wide link on the side bar of the blog. This can help you increase your back links and boost your Google page rank. It can also help your Technorati ranking.
Feel free to use this list as you wish, but please do not spam the blogs here. If they get spammed they will more then likely take down their plug in, which will ruin it for the rest of us.
Edit: Most of these page ranks have changed since the recent page rank update. I'll be working on changing the list in the near future. Until then use page rank as a rough guide.PR8

Sick of Telemarketers? Sue 'em
Monday, September 17, 2007
Did you know you are entitled to money if you receive an unsolicited phone call? According to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991, if a company that you are not in business with has been sending unwanted phone calls or faxes your way, you are entitled to at least $500 for each violation:
In the event of a violation of the TCPA, individuals are entitled to collect damages directly from a solicitor for $500 to $1,500 for each violation, or recover actual monetary loss, whichever is higher. In January 2007 André-Tascha Lammé was granted $3,500 in a Sacramento, Calif., small claims court when he sued a mortgage broker who made frequent calls to his house. So far he's made $6,000 in judgments against telemarketers. [source] André has set up a website, Kill the Calls, with instructions on how to sue a telemarketer.
So if you've been harassed by telemarketers what do you have to lose?

Freelancing as A Career Option
Sunday, September 2, 2007
Home bound workers can either consider telecommuting or freelancing. While telecommuting may keep you out of your home for some hours a week, online freelancing is a good way to make money if you are forced to stay at home. For example, homemakers, part-time students, retired folk, or others who wish to supplement their income from jobs or businesses can all consider freelancing.
Freelance Skill Sets
You can start earning as a freelancer as long as you have skills that someone is willing to pay for. For example, writers, web designers, photographers, and programmers can earn a substantial income by creating articles, websites, portfolios and software from home. The Internet is a hot and viable source of income for freelancers from around the world. Your target customers can be webmasters, online business owners, blog owners etc. For example, blogs and wikis are hot sources of income for freelance writers nowadays, and there's no reason why you can't tap into this market if you possess good writing skills.
Freelance Income
On the flip, your income may fluctuate from one month to another. As with all businesses, freelancing does not guarantee a stable paycheck at the end of the month. So keep a small kitty reserve for dry days or have another source of income for which you can work part-time. Be prepared to accept boring, low-level work initially just to keep the cash flow strong. Once you get a good reputation for providing original, high-quality work at reasonable price, then clients will flock to you.
Freelance Advantages
Probably the best thing about freelancing is that you get to work at your pace, in your own hours, from home, and be your own boss. That means, your shop is open 24x7. And as long as you provide good quality work and meet deadlines, your clients will remain happy with you.
In order to be visible, you also need to be seen and heard in the right places, like forums, blogs, online groups, etc. Spend time everyday to visit such sites because they are invaluable repository of freelance gigs and email addresses of prospects. Alternatively you can sign up with freelance sites like Elance.com and GetAFreelancer.com where you can start bidding on projects and snag a few as early as today!
To conclude, a freelance business is one of the best ways to earn money from home and to work for your own self. If you've got a fair amount of time on your hands, maybe you too should consider freelancing as your full-time career alternative or supplementary income source.
(Hint: While you can find plenty of lucrative freelance assignments on Elance, the other sites mentioned above generally tend to feature lesser-paid projects. However, if you're just starting out as a freelancer, the competition on Elance can prove to be really tough. So you might want to first try GAF and Scriptlance to build up your portfolio, and then go for Elance.)

Get Paid To Be An Online Juror
Thursday, August 9, 2007
You can become an online juror and get paid for each case that you review. Some lawyers will pay money to have an online mock trial so they can prepare for a case. All you have to do is read a script with the facts and perspectives of each party. Then you answer a few questions about the trial and your done. It's somewhat similar to an online survey.
You have to be over 18 and have never been convicted of a felony to apply for these sites.
Ejury pays $5-$10 depending on the length of the case. There is no minimum payout and the payments are made via paypal. According to their FAQ the average time spent on each case is 35 minutes.
Here is a sample case you will see on Ejury.
Online Verdict pays $20-$60 per case. The cases take anywhere from 20-60 minutes. You can choose which cases you want to review and you get notified via e-mail when new cases arrive.
This is an interesting way to make money. Although I compared it to filling out online surveys it seems like a much funner way to make money, and it pays better.

Amazon Mechanical Turk
Saturday, August 4, 2007
Amazon's Mechanical Turk is a place where web developers list odd-jobs that they need done, along with the price they are willing to pay. Most of the tasks are really easy, such as finding a title for an article or finding the best picture for a product. You can sign up for free and do the tasks immediately. The pay is pretty low, but the work is easy. Most of the tasks (called "HITS") range from 2.00-.01. Here are a few examples of what a HIT would look like:
Transcribe a 15-minute podcast ($1.50 + bonus)
Answer a single demographic question (.02)
Give a 100-word review of the movie 300 (.20)
If you see a HIT you would like to take, you can accept the HIT immediately. You complete it on the site without having to log-on to a third-party site, unless that's part of the task.
I signed up with Amazon Mechanical Turk a few months ago. I have taken 90 HITS and made 3.10 so far. Most of the HITS were worth .01 but only took me about five seconds to do. I usually log-on while I am waiting for class to start.
Obviously this isn't a get-rich-quick scheme. It would be pretty hard to make above minimum wage by working on this site. There are good things about working on MTurk which make the site noteworthy, though. Here are a few:
- It's run by a trustworthy company (Amazon)
- There are always HITS available
- You only take the HITS that you want to do
- The tasks are generally easy
- The minimum pay-out is low ($10)
- Most of the HITS don't have any special requirements

How To Spot Internet Scams
Saturday, July 7, 2007
I have spent a lot of time searching the internet for ways to make money. I've seen a lot more scams than paying offers. I never gave my money to them but I did give my e-mail address out on a number of occasions to have it flooded with spam. I got off easy. Some people give their money to them unknowingly. Hopefully this will help you spot scams so it never happens to you.
Red-Flags
These are the basic things to look for that will help you spot a scam
- Don't trust website ads with big font, flashy color, and outrageous claims. No serious employer advertises like this:
SICK OF YOUR BORING JOB??!! WANT TO MAKE REAL MONEY NOW?!! GET PAID BIG CASH TODAY!!!!!!!!!11
The truth is, if a job really pays, they won't have to advertise for employees. Everyone likes working from home. Companies that allow you to do that don't have to actively seek people out, and they don't have to make big claims like $1,000 on your first week of work. If those companies existed, their slots would be filled immediately.
If it seems to good to be true, it probably is.
- Never, and I mean never trust any advertiser that asks you to pay a fee before working for them. Think about it: if they don't even have the funds to hire you, how are they going to pay your salary? A real company that needs workers will not ask them for a fee upfront. A good employee is an asset to a company, not a money bank.
- Be wary of "type at home" and "data entry" jobs.
I type 120 wpm, so I would love to have a job like this. But as I've said before, I have spent a lot of time on the internet looking for ways to make money online, and I have never come across a typist job that didn't scream "scam!" nor have I ever heard of anybody actually making money from it. The websites I went to almost always charged a fee (usually $50 or more) for "job scouting," and they hardly ever mention a refund for your money.
There also seems to be no need for this type of work on the internet. With copy and paste, who needs an online typist? If there are any real job opportunities in this field, they probably want you to sign-in to a bunch of forums and spam them with their product, which would be time-consuming and frustrating.
- Be careful with online surveys.
There are online survey sites that seem legitimate, and I have tried them all. I am currently signed up with about 15 survey sites and I get spam from them all the time. Every time I get an e-mail from them with a survey, the payment is usually a submission in a "sweepstakes." If they are offering money, its very rarely over $2.00.
I've filled out hundreds of surveys and I have yet to see a dollar. The reason is many of these sites have a minimum cash out, usually ranging from $20-$50, and as I get closer to the cash out level, I begin to get less surveys in my mailbox. As a matter of fact, I nearly reached the cash out level on one site and I never received an e-mail from them again. Even if I had gotten my money it wouldn't have been worth it. Many surveys take anywhere from a half hour to two hours to fill out and pay around $2. Talk about the internet working class!
- Check blogs
If you aren't sure if a site is a scam or not, sometimes the best way to find out is to do a google blogsearch for the company. Most bloggers are pretty candid about their experiences with bad internet companies which I think makes them a much more reliable source than a forum or a website. Make sure you check more than one site if the blogger is overly enthusiastic about the service or job. They may be getting paid off.
