Sick of Telemarketers? Sue 'em

Did you know you are entitled to money if you receive an unsolicited phone call? According to the Telephone Consumer Protection Act of 1991, if a company that you are not in business with has been sending unwanted phone calls or faxes your way, you are entitled to at least $500 for each violation:

In the event of a violation of the TCPA, individuals are entitled to collect damages directly from a solicitor for $500 to $1,500 for each violation, or recover actual monetary loss, whichever is higher.

In January 2007 André-Tascha Lammé was granted $3,500 in a Sacramento, Calif., small claims court when he sued a mortgage broker who made frequent calls to his house. So far he's made $6,000 in judgments against telemarketers. [source] André has set up a website, Kill the Calls, with instructions on how to sue a telemarketer.

So if you've been harassed by telemarketers what do you have to lose?
